Luke 22:42 (KJV)…Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
I think this is a very significant scripture because it shows us our humanly nature. Jesus was at a point where He was contemplating His purpose that God ordained for Him, and that was to die for our sins. Jesus was a natural, breathing, walking human being like you and I. He was susceptible to the same things we are even though He was sinless. Jesus had feelings, emotions, temptations, etc…. But he knew His purpose and He knew the reason why He was put on this earth.
Nonetheless throughout all of the physical and emotional trials, He was still willing to let Gods will be done in His life. Let’s take a look into our own lives, me included. How many of us are actually at that point in our lives? We say it all the time but how many of us are actually willing to fully submit ourselves to God and let Him do whatever He wants in our lives without any interjection from us? For many of us, God isn’t requiring that much right now; He might be telling you to read the Bible more often, He might be telling you to stop eating foods that cause damage to your body, He might be telling someone that is single to stop dating for awhile and concentrate on Him wholly, whatever it is, it is nothing compared to what Gods will was for Jesus.
We have gotten into this mindset that God will give us whatever we desire, and that’s very true if you’re mature; but we leave out our part, the part we have to play in the process. Your faith alone will not produce anything in your lives from God. Your faith needs works behind it to become perfect. We tend to skip over that part of the scripture because it means we have apart to play also.
James 2:26 (KJV)
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
It’s time to fully submit ourselves to God and let His will be done in our lives and not our own. Many of us fall into the traps of the devil because we are not truly submitted to God. With your total submission comes His total protection, how can He keep you covered if you’re always running away doing your own thing? As you submit totally to God that means that He is in your forefront and the devil has no precedent in your life because you are too wrapped up into God to give him and his deceptions any attention.
James 4:7 (KJV)
Submit yourselves therefore to God, Resist the devil, and he shall flee from you.
The word “submit”, meaning to obey, put under, be under obedience, subdue unto, etc…
I have made up in my mind that I am willing to let God have His way in my life totally and fully, because there is nothing that I can do or will ever do that will out do His plan for my life. Will you make that declaration also, He is waiting on you.
I hope that this has been a blessing on your life.
