The saying “I’m only human” is usually stated when someone has made a mistake based upon how they felt at that given moment. There are two types of people that live in the world; we have believers, and non-believers. Yes, we are all human but the believers of the world have an advantage over the non-believers of the world; we are human with Christ residing in us.So, those mistakes that the non-believers of the world make, usually out of ignorance of self can be avoided by the true believers of the world. To me, saying that I’m only human is an excuse for a person’s inability to control their flesh. Does this mean that people that believe don’t experience situations everyday that would have once had the ability to push them over the edge; no not at all. It only means that this time the believer is able to handle that situation from a Christ point of view instead of a self point of view.
In order for me to be able to try and impart godly knowledge into you I think I have a responsibility to be transparent, and not try and paint a picture of myself as a holier than thou person that never makes mistakes or has a negative thought enter my mind. We all pretty much go through the same things in life, situations may be different but all of the same emotions have been tapped before. Don’t think of emotions as being a bad thing, God created those also. If God never implanted emotions in our lives we would be a boring creation, kind of like the Vulcans in Star Trek, if you’re a Star Trek fan you know what I’m talking about.
What we have to learn to do is take dominion over those emotions and learn how to present them at the right time and in the right moment. Someone that doesn’t believe or even for someone that does believe and does not know how to tap into the power of Christ within; this becomes a hard challenge. This is why people need yoga, therapy, meditation, etc…, not saying anything bad about those things; I’m just saying don’t use those things as a supplement for the Christ in you.
When I experience situations that tend to make me mad or frustrated, the first thing that my flesh wants to do is breakdown and have a fit. In my mind a four letter word may present itself; yes I said a four letter word, just because I’m saved, filled with the Holy Spirit, righteous before God, and living a Holy life does not mean that negative thoughts don’t present themselves. It’s my part to cast down those thoughts and not to act or release those thoughts into my life or onto the person who made me mad or frustrated.
Because I have an understanding of Christ living in me and through me I have to tap into Him. Instead of saying or acting on negative thoughts I say “I have the mind of Christ”, and I know according to 1 Corinthians 1:24, that Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. So through Christ I have the power over any situation that presents itself in my presence, and in a situation that would make me want to rant, rave, or swear, the wisdom of God says according to Ephesians 4:29, that I am to let no corrupt word proceed out of my mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
When I am in a situation that makes me want to go off the deep end, I just tap into Christ that is within and the wisdom of God tells me in Proverbs 14:29, He who is slow to wrath has great understanding, But he who is impulsive exalts folly. I guarantee it will work every time you apply it. I am still learning myself how to live totally in this state of mind, but as long as you honor God by applying His power and wisdom in your life, then He will honor you by being there for you 24 hours a day 365 days a year.
I pray that this has been a blessing on your lives.
