Quiet/still (Hebrew: damam)…to be silent, be still, wait.
Silent (Hebrew: hacah)…hush, keep silence, be silent, hold peace, hold tongue, still.
Today as I was in my time of prayer and worship, the Lord had me sit still and be quiet. After awhile my flesh begin to rise up, I’m not the most talkative person by any means, but to just sit still and not speak for a long period of time was very hard for me. My flesh was not liking it at all and I felt like I just had to say something. It was then that God told me I was not to speak until later in the evening. In my head I was thinking “WHAT? I can’t say anything until evening?” at this point I could have been disobedient and spoke anyway, or I could have thought “was that really God?”, because it didn’t make sense to me, but instead, I thought “Ok Lord, there is a reason for this, show me why.” He led me to this scripture…
“Be silent, O all flesh, before the LORD: for he is raised up out of his holy habitation.” (Zechariah 2:13)
Then the Lord began ministering to me, telling me that it is just as important to take time and be quiet and listen, as it was to pray. He told me that many times we hold one sided conversations with Him, we take time and give Him our prayers, but He said many people don’t take time to listen to what He has to say, or they are looking for Him to “interrupt” them and speak to them at the same time they are speaking to Him.
Let me ask you a question…What if you and your friend sat down to talk, would you both start talking at the same time? Would you interrupt them while they were talking so you could talk? Or would you talk and then as soon as you were done talking get up and walk away, without allowing your friend a chance to talk? No, you wouldn’t and God is looking for that same courtesy. He is coming out of His habitation to speak to us, He meets us right where we are to give us a word, how awesome is that!
So many times I hear people say, I don’t hear God, I don’t know if He speaks to me, etc., well I can tell you one thing, God speaks to everyone, it’s just that everyone doesn’t take the time to listen to Him. He was teaching me that valuable lesson today, and I pray that it helps you all as well, it’s time to be quiet and still before Him because He has so much to share with us. Remember Matthew 4:4 says, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God”. This is not only the Word that you read, but it’s also the words that you hear straight from God. God bless!
