Matthew 22:36-40 (KJV)Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
As I read these scriptures the thought came to me of how many Christians are TRYING to live a holy life. People have instituted religion and tradition into the body of Christ making being a Christian almost impossible. Christianity is about relationship; not about religion, standards, and impossible man-made ideologies that we think are from God.
We shouldn’t have to TRY to be a Christian, once you except Jesus Christ into your life, you just are. Jesus was saying in the above scripture to follow those two commandments, it’s that simple; love God with all your being and love your neighbor like you love yourself, in other words love your neighbor like you love Jesus, because Christ now dwells in you. Over generations those commandments have turned into a list of rules and regulations it takes to be a Christian that no one can follow, and what ends up happening is that you try to follow these man-made ideas about Christianity, you fall off the boat and you end up repenting to man because the rules never came from God.
I don’t have to get into all of the rules that some denominations go by because they’ll go on for pages. It’s time for a washing of the mind within the body of Christ, there has been a lot of junk built up in the minds of Christians that have divided us and gotten our attention off of God. It’s so simple, follow those commandments Jesus quoted and the rest will fall into line.
We don’t have to try and be extra holy by following impossible man-made doctrines to garner Gods favor and love. It’s already given to you, and He doesn’t love anyone more than the other; we are all on the same playing field. In the Bible the Pharisees followed similar behavior and we know how Jesus felt about them. They said they loved the Lord and they followed all the rules and regulations according to the law and ended up killing the one they said they loved, and breaking almost every law they lived by in doing so.
Galatians 2:16 (KJV)
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
God recently told me that the works of my hands is not what pleases Him, but rather the works by my faith is what brings Him joy. If you want to please God, than just stop TRYING to and simply follow what Jesus told us too. We can only follow what He told us to through our faith in him.
I pray that this has been a blessing on your life.
